Dullum Family Reunion

Sue og Pete har båt så lørdagen dro vi på båttur. Båten ble sjøsatt i Lake Monona. Vi kjørte opp en liten elv og gjennom Tenney Park Locks (sluse) og til Lake Mendota. Rundt disse innsjøene lå det store eiendommer, mansions, slik vi har her i Norge ved sjøkantene. Eiendommen til guvernøren av Wisconsin lå også her.

Vi dro tilbake gjennom slusen og til Lake Monona. Været som startet med overskyet på morgenen var blitt bedre og det var varmt, så alle hoppet i vannet, utenom meg. Jeg følte ikke for å bade, men de andre koset seg i vannet. 

Etter båtturen dro vi hjem til Norman og Mildred. Der fikk vi bli med inn i snekkerverkstedet til Norman, eller Studioet som han kalte det. Alle kunstnere har jo et studio. Norman er 84 år, men fortsatt jobber han flere timer hver dag med å snekre. Han lager bl.a. bokser, skrin og bokmerker i tre som han tar med seg rundt på markeder og selger. Og han selger bra. Ikke noe rart det, for de er virkelig flotte. Marie, Inge og jeg fikk plukke oss ut hvert vårt lille skrin og et bokmerke til å ta med oss hjem.

Søndagen var dagen jeg hadde gledet meg mest til og hadde størst forventninger til. The Dullum Family Reunion. Etterkommere etter min bestefars bror, Arne. De pleier å ha en slik familiesammenkomst en gang pr. år, vanligvis i september, men denne gang var den fremskyndet pga. vårt besøk. 

Og her fikk jeg møte flesteparten av min slekt. Arne senior's 4 barn, Ruth, Norman, Alfred og Arne, som da er min mors søskenbarn. Og de fleste av deres barn og barnebarn, og også et oldebarn. Totalt 41 personer, inkl. oss tre. Og da var det ikke alle som hadde anledning til å komme.

Det hele foregikk i en park og alle hadde med hver sin rett. Noen hadde med middagsmat og noen hadde med dessert. Jeg hadde jo ikke noe mat å ta med, men jeg hadde kjøpt med noen esker med Freia Melkehjerter fra taxfreebutikken på Gardermoen så jeg tok med en eske så de fikk smake norsk sjokolade.

Den store overraskelsen for meg ble da Staci holdt en liten tale for meg og gratulerte meg med min 50-årsdag. Hun hadde kjøpt inn kake for anledningen. Det kom helt uventet på meg, og jeg ble riktig så rørt av det hele.

Dagen ble riktig så fin og koselig, en dag som svarte til mine forventninger. Moro å treffe de som hadde mulighet til å komme og å få et ansikt til alle disse navnene på slektstreet.

Dagen ble avsluttet med et vannskishow i Madison. 

Dullum Family Reunion

Sue and Pete have boat so Saturday we went on a boat trip. The boat was launched in Lake Monona. We drove up to a small river and through Tenney Park Locks and to Lake Mendota. Around these lakes there are large mansions, like we have in Norway at the seaside. The mansion of the governor of Wisconsin was also here.

We went back through the river and into Lake Monona. The weather that started with a cloudy morning had improved and it turned sunny and hot, so all jumped into the water, except me. I did not feel for a swim, but the rest got in the water.

After the boat trip we went to Norman and Mildred's home. There we got to see Normans workshop, or studio as he called it. All artists have a studio. Norman is 84 years old but he still works several hours each day with carpentry. He makes boxes and bookmarks of wood that he takes around to markets and sell. And he sells good. No wonder, because they are really great. Marie, Inge and I got to pick out each our little box and a bookmark to take home.

Sunday was the day I had been looking forward to mostly and had expectations to. The Dullum Family Reunion. Descendants of my grandfather's brother, Arne. They have a family reunion once a year. usually in September, but this time they had this now because our visit.

Here I met most of my family. Arne senior's 4 children, Ruth, Norman, Alfred and Arne, who are my mother's cousins. And most of their children and grandchildren, and also a great-grandson. Total 41 persons, including the hree of us. Not all had the opportunity to come.

It all took place in a park and all brougth some food. Someone brought dinner and some dessert. I had not any food to bring, but I had bought a few boxes of Freia Milk Hearts from dutyfree shop at the airport so I brought a box so they got to taste Norwegian chocolate.

The big surprise for me was when Staci gave a little speech to me and congratulated me on my 50th birthday. She had bought a cake for the occasion. That was totally unexpected for me, and I got so touched by it all.

The day was quite so nice and cozy, a day that responded to my expectations. Fun to meet those who had the opportunity to come and get a face to all those names on the family tree.

The day ended with a water ski show in Madison.
